Book Action Day

Creative campaign for book launch

To grow my audience, I launched a campaign for my first book I Keep My Shadow Light. I turned short extracts into a series of 114 eye-catching posters which I hung around the city in the places they describe, with a QR code linking to the newsletter signup and Instagram handle.

I organised a Book Action Day where 50 people joined me for a cycle tour around Berlin hanging the posters and creating social media content. I created playful slogan t-shirts for everyone to wear, “Careful, or you’ll end up in my novel” and a couple which were based on t-shirts that feature in the book “Bright lights, big city” and “My name is Lord of All Evil but I’ll answer to Satan”.

I documented the project on Instagram, posting the pictures of the posters in reverse order they come in the book. I also made a series of reels to promote each new newsletter post.

I worked with former colleagues and friends on the campaign – a graphic designer to design the posters and t-shirts, a videographer to shoot the campaign video, and a web designer to help with the project landing page.

I then hung a second round of posters, placing them in locations where people gather and pause –by public ping pong tables, skateparks, outside galleries, and by traffic lights. The campaign increased my audience exponentially and led to invites for public readings and interviews with journalists.
